A way to improve our life greatly

Last spring, 6 students graduated from the Contemporary Feng Shui Advanced Class and they became Feng Shui consultants in Japan.

Several days ago, I met with one lady and heard a very interesting story from her.

After she became a Contemporary Feng Shui consultant, although she lives in Tokyo, she was able to do many consultations throughout Japan, in places like Kyushu and Osaka and so on and she did many consultations over the year.

Thanks to this, she was able to see the results and benefits of Feng Shui. One person threw away about 80% of the stuff in their house and they had many changes in their life occur very quickly and they experienced big changes in their good fortune.

Her client realized deeply the connection between the stuff they have in their house and their emotions. They realized that these things affect each other on a level that they didn't know about before. They were able to look at what they have and decide what they really want, and what they don't. They were able to decide if the things they had were aligned with what they wanted in their life and if it didn't then they found a way to get rid of that thing.

One client threw away about 80% of the things they owned! Another client threw away clothes and furniture and replaced some of these with new items that better fitted their lives.

What happened in their lives after they did this? Here are just a few of the things they noticed:
One client received a big project that he had never expected to receive.
One client became friends with a celebrity. She felt this kind of person was above her status level, but after making changes she was able to meet and become friends with such a person.
One client began a love relationship with a rich man who even has his own private jet!
This is just a few of the amazing results.

The Feng Shui consultant was so amazed by the things that happened in her clients' lives. She said that she recommended the clients throw away a lot of things, but she personally couldn't throw away as much of her belongings. She was so impressed by the changes in her clients' lives that she too wanted to throw away more. She realized that throwing out things was so important and always asking yourself, "do I want this item in my life?" or "is this item aligned with what I want in my life?"

Throwing away 80% of the things you own is almost like major surgery on your house! It is almost like a death and rebirth situation.

I still have my own problem. I have a lot of things in my house, I have many clothes I don't wear anymore and I have a lot of books, too, many of which are complete sets of series, but I will never read these again.

I wrote about throwing away 80% of your things, but this doesn't mean that you have to throw away everything, or make a lot of garbage. We are not focused on throwing away everything. If we focus on throwing away things, then we will end up believing that empty white space is the best sort of space to invite good fortune. This is not the point.

Throwing away things is the result - the most important thing is to look once more at what we have, and decide what of those things do I like? What things make me feel happy and comfortable? What things do I want to use my time and energy on in my life?

The key is rethink the focus of our life. This is a chance to think about our life's focus, and how the things we already have help or hinder us achieve this focus. This process is the work we must do to attract new energy. The process is what is important for changing our lives.

When we leave our house, there is a lot of information coming at us, through our eyes and ears and we cannot control this information. And unfortunately this information does affect us. Especially in downtown Tokyo, or other big cities, you are surrounding by noisy sounds and sights.

Fortunately we can select what we want to have in our houses. We can decide what do we want to buy? What do we want to select? What do we not want to choose? A gift we received from somebody, or something we have used since we were a child... do we want to continue using that thing or keeping it in our life? We can make this decision.

When I visit people's houses, I often find people keep things that they don't really like or need, just because they feel guilty for throwing it away because it was a gift, or it would be a waste to throw it away. Most of us have spent money and bought a lot of cheap things; cheap furniture, cheap things from the 100 yen store, or cheap plastic umbrellas and so on. We need to get rid of these cheap things and fill our lives and houses with more quality items.

In fact, at the moment, I am training to become a Feng Shui consultant, and I have been to some houses to do my training. I advised some people to throw away the box that they keep their slippers in in the entrance.

These people told me that they don't have guests come to their house. Maybe once or twice a year people visit, however, they have 4 to 5 pairs of slippers in their slipper box in the entrance hall. They don't use them! They think "someone might come" so they prepare the slippers, but they are wasting space in their narrow and small entrance area, for something that they don't need.

Also, I went to one lady's house and she had a spare futon stored in her closet that she used only once or twice a year when guests stayed with her. She lives in a very small apartment and the futon takes up such a lot of cupboard space and is a waste of space really.

In fact, several years ago, I decided not to have a futon for guests. I moved into a very small apartment with a very small closet. When I threw out the guest futon, I felt a clear feeling of "this is my space, for my life". And when a friend came to my town to visit, I decided to reserve a hotel room for them, or if they didn't mind, they could stay at my house in a sleeping bag.

Of course, that meant I was spending money on their hotel room cost, but that is a better use of my resources than keeping a spare futon in my cupboard space for the other 364 days when it wouldn't get used. We need to be more ruthless! Once you stop wanting other people to think you are a good person (because, for example, you have a spare futon ready for them to stay at any time) your life will become easier.

When I tidy up my house I try to remember that everything has information. And I imagine what kind of information it is and what kind of energy that thing has. And then I decide whether I want to keep it or throw it away. Even if it is inside a cupboard or drawer and you can't see it, these things have information for us too. And we need to tidy up the things in our drawers, too.

And I found that when I tidy up my house I downsize as much as possible and this has not caused me any problems at all. This means that we already have enough. And it means that we will use the things we have much more carefully and possibly buy less in the future, too.

A few days ago I attended the Tony Robbins workshop in Japan. In the workshop they had lots of booths and they were giving away many things to the attendees for free. Some booths were giving away CDs and books for free. There were long lines of people queuing to get these free gifts. However, I and a feng shui friend I went there with didn't line up to get anything, because we didn't want those things even if they were free.

What percent of the things you own are really necessary for your life? If you decided to decrease what you own by 80% what would you keep as the remaining 20%?

If I promised that your life would improve greatly if you decreased your belongings by 80% would you take action to do this?

Holidays or changes in the season are a good time to tidy up our houses, let's do this!

Ps. This is not only things - we need to say goodbye to relationships in our lives that we no longer need, too. If we create time and space in our lives then new experiences and relationships will come our way.

To set our Ideals

Recently I found an interesting Cayce reading. The reading is as follows:

Q) Was black magic responsible for my blood condition, and is there any black magic being practiced in my life now?
(A) Not in the present. ....When there is held by self an ideal, or that as is a guiding star for the continuity of life, hope, peace and happiness, these may not touch a body. 2143-1

He is talking about black magic, and he said that he is not "in the present." This means that at this point the black magic and her health condition were not connected, but that a connection might be possible.

Even in Japan, in the 21st century, we sometimes do a kind of black magic, or pray negatively for people. This is of course very common in the Amazon and Africa where people still do this too.

Many people have experienced a kind of “homa” or fire ritual at shrines and temples in Japan, to pray for their dreams to come true. Actually we don’t know if this power is from someone’s sixth sense, or from the universal law, however we also do a kind of ritual where we place salt by the front door to protect us from negative energy.

This means that we know that sometimes our life or our health does not go well or will go well due to the power from an unknown energy. And also we want to use this unknown power to increase our luck and reject unlucky power.

Even in the 21st century we use this. Our ancient instincts are aware of this power even now. We try to bring this power into our daily lives.

In many cases, we rely on rituals at shrines and temples, but we also have good luck charms that we use. And as long as we have this good luck charm with us or in our homes, we feel that we are protected from negative energy.

Edgar Cayce recommends that we protect ourselves from curses and black magic by setting “our ideal” first. The determination or attitude that we have to move towards the ideal that we have set is necessary and sufficient to protect us from negative energy, even if someone tries to attack us using negative energy.

Edgar Cayce says that if someone tries to use negative energy against us, this energy cannot touch us, as long as we have our ideal. Don’t you agree that this is the strongest protection in the world? And best of all, it’s free! How powerful is this simple act of setting our ideal for our life.

Some years ago, I introduced a story from Edgar Cayce’s life. Edgar Cayce tried to discover oil to make money. He wanted to establish a clinic to give people treatment based on his readings, and so he thought that mining for oil in Texas would be a good way to come up with the money needed to do this. He tried to find oil, not for his own greed and purposes, he had a true and pure ideal of creating a hospital to help people who were suffering.

But unfortunately the people who he was dealing with did not share the same ideal, and so God tested the people involved. And in the end, Cayce was unable to find oil, even though his readings led him to a place that was supposed to have lots of oil. He later sold the land, and the new owner was able to find oil, and he experienced great wealth because he bought the business from Cayce.

The reason Cayce couldn’t find the oil despite the reading telling him where to look for it was because they couldn’t decide on a single ideal that they all shared. Each person had their own ideal. These ideals couldn’t be mixed together to create a single ideal which would then become the guiding star to hope and peace.

Cayce said that in the Apocalypse of John, John said that it was very important to have a spiritual ideal. This “ideal” is similar to a mission, vision, or life goal, however it is a little different. The ideal which Cayce recommend is truly a guiding star, that will always be there for us, keeping us strong and moving ahead.

Cayce recommended that we have three ideals: spiritual, mental, and physical.
If you are interested to know what Cayce’s ideals were, please read "A Search for God".

Nelson Mandela's Speech

Recently(*2010,April) I have come across many blogs introducing the inaugural speech by Nelson Mandela because of the movie "Invictus". The speech I’m referring to is the one about “our greatest fear”. Many people believe that Mandela said this in May 1984, and it has been shared over and over on blogs and in newsletters, as being said by him.

The quote starts as follows;

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

It is a very wonderful speech, and everyone was so inspired by it. However, after reading it over and over I had a strange feeling. I had recently read the original book, Invictus, that later became the movie about Mandela. The author said that people were not impressed by the May 1984 speech by Mandela. The author never introduced this famous speech by Mandela in the book. I was confused. Why would people not be impressed by such a powerful speech? And why did the author not introduce the speech in Invictus? I decided to use Google to see if I could find out why the author of Invictus had thought that people were not impressed with the president’s inaugural speech.

Soon, I found the original speech by Mandela, and it was completely different to the quote that many people now attribute to Mandela. Some bloggers introduced this “deepest fear” quote as being by Mandela, however other bloggers introduced a completely different quote. I didn’t know what was going on… so my English coach and I searched more on the internet and found a very interesting story.

Nelson Mandela’s official website also said that the “deepest fear” quote doesn’t belong to Mandela.

Here is what it says on his website:

‘Deepest fear’ quote not Mr Mandela’s

Mr Nelson Mandela is an often quoted individual; his inspirational words are
often referred to in numerous publications, television and radio broadcasts,
and online. However, a quote commonly attributed to Mr Mandela was in fact
never uttered by him.”

On the website, they said that Nelson Mandela never said this during his inaugural speech as president nor on any other occasion! We were so surprised to find this out. In spite of the fact that Nelson Mandela did not say this, many people around the world believe that it was said by him.

We continued searching and found the origin of the quote. In fact, it comes from a book, A Course in Miracles, written by Marianne Williamson. Perhaps many people misunderstood and thought that this quote had come from Mandela because her words were so deep and full of love that it seemed like something that Mandela would say, and now thanks to the Internet, although it is not true, it is now almost like common knowledge all of the world that the quote is by Mandela.

By the way, do you know "Prayer of St. Francis”?

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy."

Many people know this prayer, however it is in fact not originally by St. Francis of Assisi, yet many people believe that it is. The prayer is now commonly known as the Prayer of St. Francis although he never said this prayer nor was it a prayer that people used to pray for him.

I guess the same thing happened to the quote about "our deepest fear”.

I imagine this quote does reflect Mandela’s life and thoughts, and his spirit, and so that is why people easily believed that this quote was by him. Thus, eventually people all around the world have been so impressed and inspired by this quote, all the while believing it to be the words of Mr. Mandela.

Even though Marianne Williamson has said that this quote is from her book, I guess this fact might slip our mind soon, and so many people will go on believing that the quote is by Mandela.

The Paradoxical Commandments became famous as a quote by Mother Teresa. However, this too, originally came from someone else. It was originally from a Harvard University student Kent M. Keith, who was just 19 years old.

The Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson, the Prayer of St. Francis and The Paradoxical Commandments were written by someone’s mind, brain and their hands. However, I think that all words that touch our soul deeply actually come from God. One day, one moment, someone was able to access the universe and God’s consciousness. And they could translate his words for us, so that we too could understand his words and use them to make our lives better.

I heard that Mozart said that his work as a composer was actually easy because all he was doing was making a score of the music that he could hear playing in space. I think this is the same as what is happening with these quotes… they were written in a similar way to the way Mozart wrote his music.

So I think it is ridiculous to say that the Deepest Fear quote did not came from Mandela, but from other person in particular.

The more important thing is that we are all living true to these words, and if we are doing so then it is even possible for another person to think that we were the person who originally said those words.

When other people speak negatively about others, what happens? Do their close friends and family deny that or say that it is not true? Or do they agree it easily? I want to be the sort of people who is defended by others, the sort of person that others will say, “No, that’s not true, she is not that kind of person” if someone else speaks negatively about me.

Sometimes when we hear rumors about ourselves, we are angry because we didn’t say or do such bad things. However, it might be a message to us, that others believe that is how we are living, and so it is a chance for us to change.

In conclusion, I’d like to leave you with the complete quote of the Deepest Fear written by Marianne Williamson. This is a wonderful message that we should read again and again.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel
insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates
others.

Mosquito Snot!

Recently I was interviewed by Funai Media for their magazine(*March 2007).

Every month they interview people who are at the forefront of business in Japan. There are so many great people being interviewed in this series that I was surprised to be asked, and so worried about talking about my work in this way.

Despite these worries, I was able to talk about my business for an hour or so. Several days after the interview, I received the rough draft of the article. I was so surprised because not only did they focus on my business, but they also included a lot of the small talk that we’d engaged in.

In particular, I had talked about “mosquito snot” and they had included this! Funai Media is a business magazine, and so it was completely unexpected that this small talk had become part of the focus of my interview!

I emailed the writer and told her that I was worried about this. However, she replied saying that she was very impressed with my story about mosquito snot, and she felt that the readers would also be interested in this episode.

And now, I’d like to tell you about this “mosquito snot episode” too.

When I was a child, my brother and I liked to do star watching through our telescope.

We realized what very small beings we were, in comparison to the universe. After this realization, my brother felt that there was no value to the life of a human and he felt very depressed. He even had a tendency toward suicide.

I was there watching the stars too, did I have the same feeling as my brother? Did I also lose sight of the meaning of life? Of course, I felt that the universe was so huge, and we are so small compared to the universe. However, after realizing this, I found that since I am so small, my worries and fears were also so small almost like mosquito snot when compared to the universe!

When I was a child, my great grandmother was still alive, she was in her eighties. When I thought about living to the same age as her, I realized that I had another 80 years or more to live. I was a very philosophical child, even in kindergarten. I was aware that life was very long, and I felt that my life was too long to live. I was just 4 or 5 years old, but when I thought that I had to live for another 80 years or so I was devastated!

Sometimes I thought about how very, very long my life was and I often cried thinking that I had to live another 80 years and in the morning, when I woke up, I was always so shocked that I was still alive. My days always started with a sigh. My whole childhood was basically like this!

But when I discovered the size of the universe by looking at the stars, I realized how very short my life really is.

If I ever feel that my worries are too big or too terrible, I remember that I’ll be gone in about 80 years. At the same time my troubles will disappear in about 80 years, and this is such a short time compared to the hugeness of the universe.

After I realized that my life was so short compared to the universe, I made up my mind to live until the very end of my life, even if I experience troubles or have a hard life. Because life is so short and small, just like mosquito snot, whether I live for 100 years or only 30, it is basically the same.

God gave me a certain lifespan and it is important for me to live out the lifespan that he chose for me.

I was not a childlike or childish child. When I was in kindergarten, I believed in reincarnation. I felt a sense of discomfort about living life, but I was just a child, and so it was strange to be so philosophical at such a young age.

The message from the universe through the telescope to me was that human life, whether long or short, is very precious.

This is the episode that I talked about with Funai Media.

Several years ago I watched an American drama, Ally McBeal. The heroine Ally is talking with her coworker. In the drama, her coworker said, “why are your worries so serious and so much more important than others’?” And Ally answered, “because they are MY worries.”

I know that my worries and loneliness feel worse and harder than the worries other people faced, but life is short. Life and the worries that we face are essentially the same as mosquito snot when compared to the huge universe! When I remember this, I feel comfortable and at ease with my life. I feel uplifted.

How about you?

If you feel like me, and this kind of thinking helps you feel uplifted and cheered up, then I am very glad I was able to share my story with you.

Recipe for Good Fortune

Last week I traveled with some friends to Nagasaki.
At the hotel we chatted almost till midnight like young girls at a pajama party! This kind of chatting with close friends is like good nutrition for our spirit and souls.

One of the friends told us about something that had happened to a girlfriend of hers. She said that her friend decided to stop saying negative things about others and to stop complaining for three months. She was able to do it for three months. And during that time she found many blessings and good things happened to her, such as coincidences and serendipity, one after another.

In fact, I have tried to do the same thing in the past. But it was so difficult that I gave up after 3 weeks. (Mail magazine No.316)

Edgar Cayce left us with a very similar reading: we should not say negative things about others. To speak harshly of others and to criticize naturally hurts the other person, but it also hurts us. These words can hurt our future as well, because those words will return to us in some way in the future.

"Also we find the inclinations for the entity at times to become, when aggravated, rather severe in its criticisms of others. This should be tempered; for what one says of another will usually be one's own state also - in one form or another."1669-1

"...but ye cannot even THINK bad of another without it affecting thee in a manner of a destructive nature. Think WELL of others, and if ye cannot speak well of them don't speak! but don't think it either!"2936-2

Sometimes, however, we want to fight back, because we feel that we are right and others are wrong. Even in such cases, Edgar Cayce says that we should not fight back against the other person.

"Though ye may be spoken of harshly, smile - SMILE! For it is upon the river of Life that smiles are made. Not grins! No Cheshire cat activities bring other than those that are of the earth, of such natures that create in the minds and the experiences those things that becomes repulsive. But the smile of understanding cheers on the hearts of those who are discouraged, who are disheartened. It costs so little! It does thee so much good, and lifts the burdens of so many!" 281-30

"Leave off speaking unkindly. If it is impossible to say nice things about a person, keep silent - even though what you might say may be true." 3376-1

If you believe in God, then you must accept this Cayce reading all the more. We Japanese don’t believe in just one God. We sometime visit shrines, temples or churches. I think this is evidence that we believe that there are gods. And therefore, we must live in alignment with this belief.

Edgar Cayce says that if you believe in God, please be patient even when someone says something against you. Please let it be.

This looks easy, but it is in fact, really hard.

"This requires, then, that the mental attitude be such as to not only proclaim or announce a belief in the divine, and to promise to dedicate self to same, but the entity must CONSISTENTLY live such. And the test, the proof of same, is longsuffering. This does not mean suffering of self and not grumbling about it. Rather, though you be persecuted, unkindly spoken of, taken advantage of by others, you do not attempt to fight back or to do spiteful things; that you be patient - first with self, then with others." 3121-1

(Q)Just what should I do about my husband and home?
(A) "As just indicated, live right SELF! Never so act, in ANY manner, in any inclination, that there may ever be an experience of regret within self. Let the moves and the discourteousness, the unkindness, all come from the other. Better to be abased SELF and have the peace within!"1183-3

"Today, I didn’t meet anyone and I didn’t say anything bad to anyone or about anyone. " I’m not saying that we should live like this, without ever meeting others. This is a very passive way of living. Instead, we live with others and meet with others, and then make the proactive choice to be kind, say nice things, and make others laugh and be happy rather than choosing to say something bad or negative about them or to them.

This is the true recipe for good fortune.

I want to introduce one more reading by Cayce. He gave this reading to a woman who had a disease.

"Keep an attitude of helpfulness, cheerfulness, hopefulness. BE OPTIMISTIC! At least make three people each day laugh heartily, by something the body says! It'll not only help the body; it'll help others!" 798-1

Cayce accepted that sometimes people feel positive and sometimes they feel negative.

Then he continued with the reading....
" But don't forget the recipe of making three people laugh every day! " 798-1

So here is the recipe:

Don’t say negative things. And never speak harshly to or of others. Make people laugh three times a day.

For today at least, please try this recipe,

Are you addicted to sugar?

Recently I have been receiving quite a few emails from readers asking me for advice on how to stop eating sugar.

Many people say that sugar is a like a drug, I think this true. Yet at the same time, the media is always telling us to eat more sugar, eat more sweets. And through the media, we have been led to believe that delicious equals sweet. This makes it so difficult to live without sugar in our lives.

In fact, I liked cooking sweets at home when I was a teenager.
However, I was able to make changes in my life so that I no longer have sweets in my diet. Firstly, about 20 years ago, I threw away the sugar that was in my kitchen.

I forgot many of the other things that I did, but I do remember one thing that I did, and that is: I didn’t focus on stopping eating sugar. Instead I focused on eating things that were healthy and good for me and the amount of sugar I ate decreased naturally, until I no longer used sugar.

I studied about organic vegetables and fruits, and foods that had not been processed with chemicals. And naturally my body stopped craving sugar. I didn’t follow a strict diet; in fact, the process of removing sugar from my diet was very natural and easy.

Last time, I introduced Cynthia Bischoff’s interview(in Japanese). She talked about an episode about a woman who lost 36 kilograms. The woman made up her mind to eat only foods that she gave a blessing to. She found that she could not bless junk food or processed foods. Through this, she was able to decrease her weight naturally.

In fact, I did something very similar to this. I also did enemas, and the “apple diet” for three days, following the Cayce remedies. The Cayce remedies really helped me change my eating habits. After doing a detox it seems like such a shame to ruin the good effects by eating sugar again!

I have one memory, from about 8-9 years ago, when my mother was in hospital. My aunt was staying at my apartment in order to visit my mother. She stayed with me for over two weeks. My aunt loves to cook. In particular she loves to cook Japanese food. After I got home from work at Temple Beautiful, she cooked dinner for me every night.

On the first day, she arrived at my apartment, and found that there was no sugar in my kitchen and she said that she cannot cook without it! I knew that if she went out to buy sugar, she would by white sugar, so I stopped her and went to the supermarket myself.

At that time, I realized that I didn’t even know where the sugar was stocked in my supermarket!! I go shopping at that supermarket two or three times a week, but I had no idea where the sugar was! I cannot even recall seeing sugar at that supermarket.

This was when I realized that sugar was no longer a part of my life.

At this point in my life, I don’t have any desire for sweet food or sweets. I have no feelings of “oh, it looks delicious, I want to eat that!” when I see photos of sweets in magazines or advertising. In my daily diet I don’t even use any sweeteners like honey or agave syrup.

I cannot say that I never eat sweets though! I sometimes do have dessert when I am with friends. And of course, I like to try local delicacies when I am traveling.

I also enjoy eating homemade sweets and Japanese-style confectionery such as the seasonal sweets that are available only in certain times of the year.

Basically, I am happy not to eat dessert or sweets. However, if there is dessert, then I am happy to eat it. In other words, it doesn’t matter to me if there is or isn’t dessert.

Sometimes I daydream about an alien invasion.
The aliens attack earth and take all of the chocolate and sugar. After the invasion, though, I don’t realize for quite some time that sugar and such foods have disappeared!

Some people say that if we feel we want to eat more sweet things it is probably because we lack certain nutrients and minerals or vitamins. It is not a lack of calories that drives us to eat sweets, but a lack of these necessary nutrients.

Unfortunately we don’t realize this, and so we eat more sweets thinking our body need more foods(sweets).

We need trace elements that we cannot get from synthetic supplements. In some cases, we really need these nutrients to come from real, whole foods.

Often people ask me about Edgar Cayce and his views on beet sugar and honey. They want to know if it is OK to eat beet sugar.

....But I highly recommend that you remove any kind of sugar from your kitchen if you really want to stop your sugar addiction and don’t want your eating habits controlled by sugar.

Like begets like, sugar begets sugar.

Focus on the foods that build a healthy body: organic and non-chemically treated vegetables and fruits. Don’t focus on sweets to meet your nutritional needs. You might feel that these organic foods are more expensive than other vegetables; however you’ll be saving money by stopping your sweets habit! And you’ll be supporting the organic farmers. These organic vegetables have a high energy and don’t need to be cooked as much, if at all, as other vegetables. These kinds of organic vegetables are so delicious raw.

I’m a fast shopper because I only go to the vegetable area and the Natto area in the supermarket! Good for the wallet and good for your health! You won’t need sweets anymore and you’ll lose weight and become much healthier.

I feel that only good things can come from quitting sugar.

Why not try it?

New Common Sense About Potatoes

Today I would like to introduce some ideas about the Cayce diet. Often, Edgar Cayce’s ideas defy common sense. Today’s topic is potatoes. There are some people who say, “I really like Cayce readings” but at the same time, they try to ignore the reading where Cayce recommends that we do not eat potatoes – and that if we do eat them, we should eat the peeled skin only.

The following is what Edgar Cayce says about potatoes to patients of asthma and bronchitis:

"In the diet beware of too much starches. No white potatoes. No white bread."25-6

Then this is for a patient having rheumatism:

"Keep white potatoes AWAY FROM THIS BODY! Sweet potatoes or yams may be taken occasionally." 1593-1

And, the following is for overweight people:

"Then cut down on the amount of starches; that is, no white bread, potatoes, macaroni, cheeses or the like. Leave these off." 5104-1

Of course people who seek information from the readings of Cayce are people who are suffering from some kind of disease. And so, if you are healthy, and not worried about your health, you might be alright eating potatoes. However, if you are suffering from any kind of health issue, then you might be better off avoiding potatoes for a few months. Removing potatoes from your everyday diet would be a good idea.

*On a different note, Cayce recommends that if you have cancer or tumor, you do not eat vegetables that are in a kind of chunk or mass, such as a potato, because these masses have the same energy as cancer and tumors.

If you really want to eat potatoes, then eat the skin only, or avoid eating them with other carbohydrates such as rice, breads or pasta.

This goes against what people commonly do. According to the readings, the skin of the potato is the only part worth eating. The actual potato is not good for us. Unfortunately most people eat potatoes, they peel the skin and throw it away. From now on, please keep the skin, and throw away the rest of the potato!

If you think this is a waste of food, then please peel the potato skin very thickly, or choose very small potatoes and eat all of it.

"Eat rather potatoes in the jacket and the peel rather than the pulp; the salts of these are most beneficial to the very activities of the body."23-3

"Potatoes, - only the outer portion of same, NOT the pulp, may be taken. The skins may be taken, and the portions close to same, but not the central portion of the potato."1888-1

"As to potatoes, - the yams may be taken; but if white potatoes are to be used, take only the peelings. These are very well for the body, if a taste can be cultivated for same."2455-1

For people that are worried about hair loss, please eat potato skin often. Cayce recommends eating potato skin for people suffering from hair loss. If we imagine a potato, you can see that it looks kind of similar to a head, there are holes, and buds grow out of these, I think this is quite interesting!

(Q) "What diet will prevent falling hair?"
(A) "Potatoes(skin)! But this is NOT part of the diet for this body."257-210

Cayce said we can eat the skin boiled or cooked; any type of cooking is OK, however if we do eat them, we should choose old potatoes, not new ones. In other words, potatoes that were dug up a while ago.

So, why did Cayce recommend not eating the mass part of the potato? To read his reading, he thinks that the white part of the potato is very similar to the white rice, bread or pasta. He says it is not really a vegetable. Edgar Cayce warns us not to eat two kinds of high carbohydrate foods at the same time, so for example, we should not eat rice and potatoes at the same time.

However, in the Japanese diet, we often do this – with rice with “niku jaga (potatoes and meat)”, or rice with curry(potato in it).... ,we combine rice with almost everything. So we are usually combing at least two heavy starches in one meal. In addition, in the Japanese diet, we seldom eat just potatoes, we usually eat it with some other protein. So after eating such a meal, our acid levels in our body increase quite a lot.

I myself, stopped eating potatoes, and have not eaten them for over 20 years. When I was a child, I really liked to eat cooked potatoes, or potato chips. I liked potato-based dishes.

However, the day I read the Cayce readings about potatoes, I stopped eating them! I don’t know why, but I am a very obedient person – especially when it comes to the Cayce readings!! However, if I go to a friends, and they make some food with potatoes in it, then I will eat it. So, I guess I eat potatoes, two or three times a year.

In my case, I didn’t notice any specific changes in my health condition after I stopped eating potatoes. However, I did notice that I am completely happy not eating potatoes! So I think that I will continue to not eat them.

One other thing I noticed, if I eat a lot of starches, then I want to eat more starchy food. And I start to get cravings for sweets and starches. I cannot control these cravings. So by decreasing the amount of starches and sweet things, we also decrease the desire for these things.

For most people, when they notice they don’t have potatoes in the house, they make sure to buy them next time they go to the supermarket. They feel they must always have potatoes in the house. However, I’d like you to try having a kitchen without potatoes in it.

Of course, if you have family members who love to eat potatoes, then do not worry. Please eat and enjoy potatoes. It is important not to fight with family members over what you are eating – fighting about the food you eat turns the food to poison, and this is far worse. So if someone cooks potatoes for you, please eat them and enjoy them. It is important to find and keep this balance. In this case, follow the Cayce readings for other things, not the ones about potatoes. Then when your family notices the positive changes in you, they might agree to follow the Cayce readings, including the ones about potatoes.

In any case, the “hero” of the potato is the skin! If you know any good recipes using the potato skin, please let me know.

Using a Castor Oil Pack to help with Fear

We recently held a lecture with Ms. Yoshiko Ohishi, who used to be a cancer patient. In this lecture, Ms. Ohishi said that she had vague sense" of fear… “maybe I’ll get cancer in the future.” She was thinking this even before she got cancer.

When she found out that she had cancer, her fear of "becoming a cancer patient" was gone. She was released from the fear of "becoming a cancer patient", because she now was a real cancer patient. But after she had radiation and chemotherapy, and the doctor told her she no longer had cancer, once again she worried that the cancer might return. In fact, the cancer did return, and she was cured again.

She said that this is not a unique fear to her. She said that every cancer survivor lives with the fear that the cancer might return.

The castor oil pack that Edgar Cayce recommended is not specifically recommended for cancer patients, but many people said that they feel happier and experience a sense of security while they are doing the castor oil pack.

I think this is the Gospel--Good News for people who have worries or feel insecure about their health condition. One customer said that “I’m OK, as long as I am doing the castor oil pack.” She said that although there was no evidence, she felt like "the Something Great" was supporting her. This is just one of the benefits for our mind and mental health of using the castor oil pack.

Dr. Gladys McGarey who recently turned 90, is still very healthy and lecturing around the world. She requested that they write on her grave that “she died even though she was using the castor oil pack.” She said this because she truly trusts and believes in the power of the castor oil pack, and trusts that when she dies, it will be because it is her time to die, not because the castor oil pack failed.

Everybody must die at some time, and so I also believe that if we use the castor oil pack, and die, it is because it is our destiny.

I myself, hope that I die while using a castor oil pack, if possible. Or at least just after using a castor oil pack, because I know that it provides such a release, and our minds become so quiet and peaceful. I would like to die while experiencing such a sense of peace.

Mr. Bob Hope who was a comedian in the US, once said that he wanted to take a bath in castor oil. I agree!

My final hope is to have a castor oil bath!

Many customers came across Cayce and the Castor oil packs because they had cancer. However, I highly recommend to you, as a reader of this mail magazine, to use the castor oil packs often in your everyday life. This can build trust and connection with the castor oil pack for the future.

Recently I got a wonderful testimonial from a 38 year old woman. When we read these kinds of testimonials, we feel a sense of security regarding the future.

The following is her email:

“I found out about the castor oil pack when I was reading a book about Tai Chi. I googled it and found your website. The doctor told me that I had breast cancer and so I wanted to try the castor oil pack. My doctor had made a schedule for my surgery. But I didn’t feel that I trusted the doctor who would do the surgery, so I canceled it. Then I went to another clinic, and got a second opinion. That doctor told me that I don’t need surgery yet. He told me that I should wait and see what happens.

I was so relieved to hear this, but at the same time I was worried about whether this would develop into stage 2 or not.

During that period, I came across the Temple Beautiful website. And I started using the castor oil pack. I used it for about 6 months, and then I went for a checkup at the clinic. The doctor told me there was no problem, and that my breast had recovered.

I will never forget the feeling of freedom I felt at that time, when the doctor told me I was all clear. Maybe the castor oil pack was a good fit for me. I don’t know if everybody would have the same experience, but I don’t think this is a coincidence, I think it was my destiny to find Temple Beautiful and the castor oil packs.

Now I always carry castor oil with me. I transferred some castor oil into a smaller bottle, and I put a few drops in my eyes when they feel tired. Or I use it to massage my body. I use castor oil often and without fuss, in my daily life.

Thank you very much for being part of my destiny. I am so glad to have come across the castor oil packs, and Temple Beautiful. I am very happy to write this testimonial for you.”

I also got a second email from a 60 year old woman in Tokyo.

“I am extremely sensitive to the cold. Especially my toes. Every year, from October to the following April, I use the sticky hot packs in my shoes, and attach them to the soles of my feet. Because of this, I have to buy shoes that are one size too big for me, in order to fit my feet and the heat pack!

However, just three days after starting to use the castor oil pack, I realized that I haven’t been using the heat packs, because my legs are so warm.

In addition, every night, I usually take a second bath, just before I go to bed, because my body cools down so quickly. However, after using the castor oil pack, I no longer need the second bath.

I also no longer need the electric blanket that I usually use each night.

Thank you.”

Sowing Seeds in Our Field of Life

If we want to harvest a cabbage, we sow cabbage seeds. If we want spinach, we sow spinach seeds. If we sow cabbage seeds in a field, the field will not give us spinach.

When I was in first grade at elementary school, we sowed morning glory seeds. Everyone had their own pot, and we sowed our seeds, in our little pot with our name on it.

In summer, beautiful morning glories bloomed in every pot. Naturally, there were no sunflowers in those pots. The seeds grew and blossomed into the flowers that we had planted.

This is the law of nature.

However, this law works in our lives too, not just with sowing seeds. We know this law, when it is concerned with nature and plants, but sometimes we cannot see the law working in our lives. For example, we have sown a burdock seed in our life, but we want strawberries. Or we see that we have only burdock, but our neighbor has beautiful lilies and we think this is unfair.

If a person has a large, beautiful flower blooming in their life, it is because they have sown the seed that would create such a large, beautiful flower in their field of life. And they are surely taking care of that seed every day.

Sometimes we don’t sow the seeds we want in our life, or we sow them, but don’t take care of them afterwards, or we neglect to pull out the weeds that come up. In our lives, we need to sow the seeds we want and then take care of these seeds, otherwise our lives become filled with things we don’t want or didn’t intend to sow, because this is the law of nature.

For example, sometimes we might think that we want more friends in our lives, but we are not being friends to others ourselves. We want kindness from others, but we never show kindness to others.
We say negative things about others, and then complain when they say negative things about us.
We get angry easily, but at the same time say that other people need to be more patient.

Every day in our life, we don’t sow the seeds of cabbages or morning glories, but we sow the seeds of "the fruits of the Spirit” as Cayce said. These “fruits of the Spirit” are kindness, gentleness, compassion, honesty, friendship, love, peace, harmony and so on. Smiles and positive words encouraging others are also the fruits of spirit.

On the other hand, the fruits of the devil are unkindness, hatred, anger, jealousy, negative words and words that put others down. These fruits will sully our fields and lives.

Our lives are a result of what we have sown in the past. What we have sown in our environment and human relationships in the past is bearing fruit in our lives now. If we feel our life is boring or pointless, we must think about what seeds we have sown, and what we have tended to in our lives up to now.

In a reading Edgar Cayce said that:

".... as for harmony, peace, joy, love, long-suffering, patience, brotherly love, kindness - these are the fruits of the Spirit. Hate, harsh words, unkind thoughts, oppressions and the like, these are the fruits of the evil forces, or Satan...."5754-2

"So thy purpose, then, in thy associations with thy fellow man day by day in this experience, this sojourn, is to sow the fruits of the spirit"1158-12

"Keep the self in such a manner as to be circumspect in thine own consciousness. Be true to self, making for those activities that bear the fruits of the spirit; just being kind, just being gentle, just being patient, just showing fellowship, just showing brotherly love; just bearing witness in thy walks, thy acts, thy understandings unto thy fellow man."216-15

Cayce also said,
"For as Mind is the Builder, that ye dwell upon, that ye cultivate, THAT is the manner of fruit ye bear in thy daily life."1472-6

In reading No.5019-1, Cayce said " ...should be not merely to be good but to be good for something."

It's means we need to do good for others each and every day and this doesn’t mean that we do nothing and then say it is OK, because "we did not do anything bad today". We need to take actions that are like the “spiritual fruits”. These spiritual fruits became the nutrition for our soul in the present. And in the future, they blossom and continue to bring us good fruit.

We have no time to be jealous of our friends’ lives, or feel someone else’s life looks better than ours. The only thing we can do is sow the seeds of what we want in our lives.

Today, I checked a Cayce reading, to write this mail magazine, and I found a very interesting reading. He gave a reading to a 30 year old woman who was worried about scars from acne.

Cayce said that this is a kind of karmic cause. And that she is meeting herself in her life. He recommended that she do the Castor oil pack, and an enema. And then he continued the reading as follows:

"As for scars, rather let the scars be removed from the mental and spiritual self. To undertake such through those activities of anyone altering these, we will have worse scars. Let the scars be removed from the own mental, the OWN MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL SELF. Turn to those things of making application of the fruits of the spirit of truth; love, patience, gentleness, kindness, longsuffering, brotherly love, putting away those little tendencies for being "catty" at times or being selfish or expressing jealousy and such.

Let that mind be in thee as was in Him, who is the way and the truth and the light, and we will make the light of love so shine through thy countenance that few, if any, will ever see the scars made by self-indulgence in other experiences. "5092-1

This reading did not saying that if she is kind to others, the acne will disappear. But if she is kind and gentle to others, then her soul will be happy and satisfied with this, no one will be aware of her scars in her soul. I think the acne will no longer matter in her life as long as her life is filled with love and peace. Also the scars in her soul will heal, which might in turn help the acne scars to disappear in the future.

In any case, I am very interested in the fact that Cayce mentioned her scars in her mental and spiritual self even though she was only asking about the scars of her acne.

So.....

Today, what kinds of seeds will you sow in your life?

The Secret to Keeping your body in an alkaline state

Temple Beautiful Mail Magazine No.446 (2012.6.29)

In Japan, we talk about foods being Ying and Yang.
However, Edgar Cacye talks about food being alkaline or the acidic balance of food.

The meals that Edgar Cayce says is ideal is one that is 80% alkaline and 20% acidic. This means that around 80% of our food should be vegetables and fruits. And in particular green leafy vegetables are important. In Chinese medicine, following the Ying and Yang balance, raw vegetables and fruits are Ying food, and they say we should not eat too much of this, because it is too Ying.

However, according the Cayce remedies, these foods are very important for keeping the body alkaline, and we should eat a lot of them, especially at lunch.

Edgar Cayce says that bacteria and viruses cannot increase or spread in a body that is in an alkaline state. So if we come into contact with someone who has flu for example, we needn't worry, so long as we keep our body in an alkaline state. Edgar Cayce also said that cancer patients should eat a lot of alkaline food in each meal each day. If our blood pH level is alkaline, then the percent of oxygen in the blood is also very high. Also, we can eliminate contaminants in the blood more easily if the blood is in an alkaline state. The proteolytic enzyme work more effectively in alkaline blood. So if you are suffering from poor health, Cayce recommends that you eat more raw food, and bring your body back to an alkaline state.

In summary;

1. As long as our body is in an alkaline state, viruses cannot increase within our body.
2. Our cells stay healthy, and can regenerate more smoothly.
3. Contaminants and waste products are eliminated from the body more
effectively.

Recently, I met someone who was caring for someone who had a stroke. Her husband had a stroke and couldn't move, and she was taking care of him. She told me that at his first his oxygen concentration in the blood was 84%, but every day she made a lot of vegetable juice for him. He drinks fresh vegetable juice every day. And his oxygen concentration in his blood is now in the high nineties, and close to 100%. She said she was so surprised by the power of this raw vegetable juice and her husband's condition has really improved.

I believe that even if you only eat fresh fruit and vegetables once a week, you will see a small improvements in your health. Furthermore if you eat fresh fruit and vegetables once a day, you will see an even greater improvement in your health.

People often tell me that they don't eat fresh fruit and raw vegetables every day, especially in winter.

I have good news! Our body makes acid not just from food. Our body makes acid from negative emotions, such as anger, stress, frustration and so on. These emotions cause our body to create an acidic state. And if we eat too fast, or
if we are constipated, we also will find that our body is in a more acidic state.

On the other hand, laughter, joy, and gratitude create the opposite effect and make our body more alkaline.

In the past, I did some experiments.
We licked some litmus paper, to make sure our body was in an acidic state. Then we laughed a lot, and then we licked the litmus paper again, and the result showed us that our body had turned alkaline. This was the result of just a few minutes of laughter!

In other words, even if you are eating an alkaline diet, but each day you are experiencing negative emotions such as anger, regret and stress, then your body will return to an acidic state. However, if you eat a lot of acidic food, but live a happy, joyful life and laugh a lot, your body will be in an alkaline state.

A long time ago, I read a book by Norman Cousins, An Anatomy of Illness, and in it he talked about how he could cure his disease by laughing a lot. I believe he was able to cure himself because he could strengthen his immune system and because he was able to turn his blood pH level to alkaline because he was always laughing.

We are humans, and living each day can bring stress and negativity. It is hard to live each day in a state of joy and happiness, and this is why I believe we need to eat more alkaline foods, but not only that, we must laugh often, as laughter is very important! If you are able to find the humor even in a negative situation, then you will be able to keep your blood in an alkaline state more easily.

I believe that this kind of lifestyle, eating alkaline foods and being joyful and laughing often, can lead to a positive spiral, and improvements in our health. Summer time is a good season to eat more raw food and fruits.

So let's try eating more raw foods and laughing more in our daily life. This is the secret to keeping our bodies healthy!
